Contact Pastor Mike:

Founding Pastor Mike Fetters

Mike tells the story of how he first saw the love of Christ in an offering plate at Nall Avenue Baptist Church in Prairie Village Kansas. The Church was taking up a benevolent offering for a family whose Dad needed surgery at the Mayo Clinic. In order for the wife to accompany her husband they needed help. It was Mike’s family they were taking the offering for! When Mike and his older sister walked out of the church that night they saw the Love of Jesus in offering plates that were full to the brim and running over. Shortly afterwards that same Church provided a bus to go to a crusade at the Kansas City Athletics Baseball Stadium. Mike boarded that bus and accepted Christ as his personal savior at that 1967 Billy Graham Crusade.

Mike is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty Missouri, where he met a “Crazy Cuban” young lady by the name of Esther Bustillo and married her. He then did Masters Work in Religious Education at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as three other of the five SBC Seminaries. Married for nearly 42 years Mike and Esther have three grown children and six grandchildren.

Over the course of fifteen years, Mike and Esther served three different churches in the Kansas City area, including that loving church which led him to Jesus by caring for his family. With three children under the age of seven, the Lord called Mike and Esther to Oklahoma City in 1989 where they continued in Student Ministry for ten more years. It was in 1999 that Mike felt the call to Pastor and under God’s leadership started his first church as a Church Planter.

In 2003, Mike felt the call to begin yet another church called Church Of The Journey! Mike states that COTJ is a “minimal program” church where families can experience great worship thru music and the teaching of God’s word. Mike loves God and loves people. He loves seeing individuals, marriages and entire families impacted by personal relationships with the Lord and the teaching of His Word. In his spare time Mike loves to spend time with “The Crazy Cuban” as well as his children and grandchildren. He loves working out, water sports, snow skiing, golf and helping folks with whatever they need!

Student Pastor Travis Nettleton

Travis first realized his calling into ministry early in his high school years. After graduating high school, he began a dating relationship with Lauren. They continued their relationship all through college.  While in college, Travis interned at Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe Missouri during the summer of 2005.  Starting in June 2007, he began working at Church of the Journey as a part-time student pastor.

Travis graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in May 2008 with a degree in Biblical Languages and a minor in music.  A month later, he began working full-time for Church of the Journey.  In April 2009, he married his wife Lauren.

Travis makes it his goal to not only teach his students the Word of God, but to encourage them to pursue a knowledge of God and a relationship with him for themselves, and to in turn be ministers to others.

Travis feels he has been very blessed to be a part of the Church these last few years and is excited to see what the future holds as Church of the Journey continues to follow the Lord's will!
